Reel in the Action: 6-Hour Carolina Beach Fishing

Ready to get your lines wet in some of Carolina Beach's most productive waters? Our 6-hour charter puts you right where the fish are biting. We're talking non-stop action with some of the coast's most sought-after species. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your sea legs, our crew's got the know-how to put you on fish and make sure you're having a blast doing it.

What to Expect on the Water

As soon as we push off from the dock, you'll feel the excitement build. We'll cruise out to prime fishing grounds where Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bluefish, and Bonito are known to hang out. Our captain knows these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll be hitting the hotspots where the fish are schooling. We use live bait tactics to really get the fish fired up – it's a game-changer when it comes to hooking into the big ones. And don't worry about gear; we've got you covered with top-notch rods, reels, and bait. Just bring some snacks, drinks, and a good attitude, and we'll take care of the rest.

Rigging Up for Success

On this trip, we're all about live bait fishing. It's the go-to method for targeting the heavy hitters in these parts. We'll show you how to rig your lines for maximum effectiveness – whether we're slow-trolling for Kings or sight-casting to surface-feeding Spanish. You'll learn the ins and outs of using live bait, from hooking it just right to presenting it in a way that drives fish wild. We might even break out some light tackle if the Bluefish are busting bait on the surface. It's hands-on learning that'll up your fishing game, guaranteed.

Species You'll Want to Hook

King Mackerel, or "Kings" as we call 'em, are the prize catch on many of our trips. These smokers can hit 50 pounds or more, and when they take off on a run, hold on tight! They're most active here from late spring through fall, and they love to chase live bait. Kings are known for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps – landing one of these bad boys will definitely be the highlight of your day.

Atlantic Bonito might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but pound-for-pound, they're some of the hardest fighters you'll tangle with. These cousins of the tuna family show up in our waters in the spring, usually April to May. They travel in schools and when you find them, it's often non-stop action. Bonito are fast, strong, and will test your light tackle skills to the max.

Greater Amberjack, or "reef donkeys" as some anglers call them, are brutes. These powerful fish hang around structure and will give you an arm-burning fight. They're here year-round but really fire up in the warmer months. Hooking into an AJ is like trying to stop a freight train – they'll head straight back to the bottom and make you work for every inch of line.

Atlantic Mackerel, also known as Boston Mackerel, are smaller than their Spanish and King cousins but make up for it in numbers. These guys show up in huge schools, usually in the cooler months. When you find a school, it's often fish after fish. They're great eating and perfect for anglers of all skill levels.

Great Barracuda might look scary with those razor-sharp teeth, but they're a blast to catch. These toothy predators are here in the warmer months and love to chase fast-moving baits. Cudas are known for their incredible speed and acrobatic leaps when hooked. Just be careful when you're bringing them in – those teeth are no joke!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Fishing with us isn't just about filling the cooler (though we do our best to make that happen). It's about the whole experience. You'll be out on the water, soaking in the Carolina Beach scenery, learning new techniques, and making memories that'll last a lifetime. Our crew's passion for fishing is contagious, and we love sharing our local knowledge. Whether it's your first time holding a rod or you're a seasoned pro, we tailor the trip to make sure everyone's having a good time and hooking into fish.

Time to Book Your Spot

If you're itching to bend a rod and feel that rush of a big fish on the line, our 6-hour trip is calling your name. We've got the local know-how, the right gear, and the hottest spots to make your day on the water unforgettable. Spaces fill up fast, especially during peak season, so don't wait to lock in your date. Grab your fishing buddies, pack some snacks, and get ready for a day of non-stop action on the waters of Carolina Beach. Book now and let's get fired up for some serious fishing!

Learn more about the species

Atlantic Bonito

Atlantic Bonito are like mini torpedoes, built for speed and known to hit 40 mph. These compact powerhouses usually run 5-12 pounds and love to school up, sometimes by the hundreds. You'll spot them chasing bait near the surface, often with birds working overhead. They prefer cooler water, so spring and fall are prime times to target them around here. Bonito put up a great fight on light tackle, making long runs and occasional jumps. While not the best eating, they're a blast to catch. To get into a school, look for diving birds and surface commotion. Then, try casting small, shiny lures like metal jigs or spoons. Work them fast - these fish love the chase. Pro tip: if it's windy, go with a heavier metal lure to cut through and stay in the strike zone longer.

Atlantic Bonito

Atlantic Mackerel

Atlantic Mackerel are the perfect light tackle target, usually running 1-2 pounds with some up to 4. These streamlined fish school in huge numbers, sometimes stretching for miles. Look for them near the surface in cooler months as they follow bait schools. Mackerel are fast swimmers and aggressive feeders, making them a blast on ultralight gear. They're also excellent eating, packed with healthy omega-3s. To catch them, use small shiny lures or pieces of cut bait on light tackle. A great beginner fish, but still fun for experienced anglers. Tip: if you find a school, try jigging a Sabiki rig - you might catch several at once! Just watch those teeth when unhooking.

Atlantic Mackerel

Great Barracuda

Great Barracuda are the wolves of our nearshore waters, growing up to 6 feet long with a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth. These ambush predators hang around reefs, wrecks, and channel edges in 20-100 feet of water. They're most active in warmer months when water temps hit the mid-70s and up. Cuda are prized for their explosive strikes and aerial displays when hooked. While not typically eaten, they put up an incredible fight. To target them, try trolling or casting tube lures, spoons, or live bait like blue runners. Use wire leaders - those teeth will slice through mono in a heartbeat. Local trick: if you see one following your bait, speed up your retrieve. The chase often triggers a strike from these aggressive hunters.

Great Barracuda

Greater Amberjack

Greater Amberjack are the heavyweights of our offshore reefs, often topping 50 pounds with some monsters pushing 100. These brutes hang around wrecks and deep structure in 60-250 feet of water. They're most active in spring and fall when water temps are in the 70s. Jacks are prized for their incredibly strong fights - it's like trying to stop a freight train once they're hooked. While the meat can be tough, it's great for fish tacos. To target them, drop live bait or heavy jigs right into the structure. Be ready with stout tackle - 50-pound class gear is not overkill here. Local secret: if you're not getting bites, try "bump trolling" - put the boat in and out of gear to make your bait look injured. Amberjack can rarely resist an easy meal.

Greater Amberjack

King Mackerel

King Mackerel are the speedsters of our coastal waters, often reaching speeds of 40 mph. These sleek predators typically grow to 30-40 pounds, with some monsters topping 90 pounds. Look for them in depths of 40-150 feet, especially around structures like reefs and wrecks. Kings are most active in our warmer months when water temps hit the upper 60s to low 80s. Anglers love targeting them for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics when hooked. While their meat can be a bit oily, it's great smoked or in fish dip. To boost your chances, try slow-trolling live bait like menhaden or blue runners. A local trick: use two hooks on your rig - one in the nose, one in the back. Kings often strike the tail first, so this setup improves hook-ups. Just be ready when that reel starts screaming!
